Changeover Night – 26 June

We had a super evening!  The Rotary Club of Waterlooville and the Waterlooville Inner Wheel Club held their annual Changeover evening at the Brookfields Hotel, Emsworth on Tuesday evening.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Havant were in attendance which was a boost for everyone and a good time was had by all.

Presidents only hold office for a year and each June the current President steps down and the President Elect steps up as President.  This is the same in both Clubs.

It was then time for the the outgoing President of the Rotary Club, Neil Clifton, to thank everyone for all their hard work during his year and he presented a cheque for £3,500 to the charity Action for Blind People, which is part of RNIB.
Neil went on to appoint Sue Deyes the next President of the Rotary Club.  This was quite an historic occasion because Sue is the first Lady President the Club has had!  So quite an accolade!
Sue said she was looking forward to a good year and said she would like to support 2 charities.  The Havant Women’s Aid, which covers quite a large area, including Waterlooville and the Forces Children’s Trust who help the children of those in the Armed Forces who have been killed in conflict.  The children are taken on theatre trips or days out and they understand each other because their circumstances are the same.
Sally, the retiring President of the Inner Wheel spoke of a fantastic year and thanked everyone for their help throughout her time as President before presenting a cheque for £600 to Jack’s Place at Naomi House and this coming Friday will present a similar amount to Genesis, a Special Needs Youth Group.

Sally Eshragi appointed Jean Macalister as the new President of the Inner Wheel who said how much she was looking forward to another year as President.  (Jean was President 12 years ago).  She said she would like to support 2 charities for her year, Hounds for Heroes and Dorothy’s Dream, which is the Rowan’s Hospice at Home Service.

At the end of the evening flowers were presented to Neil’s wife Sandra, Sally, Jean and Sue.
